Pastoral Care Week 2018
October 21st-27th is Pastoral Care (also known as spiritual care) Week 2018. The purpose of this week is to bring awareness to pastoral care and all of the benefits it’s caregivers bring to the people they serve. We would like to thank those working in pastoral care for the differences they make in the lives of those they serve!
Pastoral care is defined as: “an ancient model of emotional and spiritual support that can be found in all cultures and traditions. It has been described in our modern context as individual and corporate patience in which trained pastoral carers support people in their pain, loss and anxiety, and their triumphs, joys and victories.” (www.canberra.edu.au)
A pastoral careworker can guide you through hard times such as anguish, loss, loss of hope, marriage problems, financial burdens, loneliness, coping with disability, racial and religious tensions, etc. They also provide support and compassion through triumphs, joys and victories. Their qualifications include a pastoral education diploma.
