Caregiving: The Most Meaningful Work You Can Do

In-home caregivers are responsible for assisting with one-on-one care in a person’s home as an alternative solution to nursing homes, assisted living, rehabilitation units, etc. The tasks they assist with are referred to as activities of daily living (ADL’s). These are tasks that may seem almost automatic, but can become more and more difficult over time and include: personal cares (bathing, incontinence care, dressing, etc.), transportation, housekeeping, companionship, medication reminders, and miscellaneous tasks such as dog walking and checking the mail.

Caregiving can be one of the most rewarding careers out there. Most people have an idea sketched out in their head of how they want their life to look. For many, this includes the goal of remaining independent in their home for as long as possible. A caregiver is able to fulfill this dream for a client and know they are a major component in this. They also get to feel pride in knowing they are making someone’s life easier, keeping them safer, and providing their loved ones comfort in knowing they are well cared for.

Kore Cares uses Home Care Pulse to survey clients and caregivers. We use the feedback to improve and build further on categories we’re already doing well in. We take pride in the team we’ve built and establishing solid relationships with caregivers so they feel supported and can be the best they can be in their careers. These ideals lead to us receiving a Home Care-Provider of Choice award from Home Care Pulse who compares agencies against benchmark statistics throughout the US. Here are a few things our caregivers have said about being a caregiver and what it means to them.

“My favorite part of being a caregiver is the diversity of my work day. Whether I am providing personal cares, homemaker cares, or companionship, I know that every client is different. There is never an uneventful day working as a caregiver.”

“Being able to provide care to those in need is what made me want to work in healthcare. I know that I am doing meaningful work while doing something I am truly passionate about.”

“My clients are all so special to me. The stories my clients share with me are so memorable. It means a lot that they are willing to share these things with me. I really like the flexibility too.”

“I like the flexibility of scheduling and having a personal relationship with clients. There was a lot of different online training that made it easy to do it on my own time. Every time I go to a client they come and show me the ropes.”

“My favorite part about working at Kore Cares is hearing stories from clients. The clients have the best stories, some of them are really funny and others are emotional. One of the most meaningful things to me is when a client thinks of me as a member of their family.”
